Owain Glyndwr Day – 16th September 2025

Owain Glyndwr, of Welsh Nobility, was the last Native Prince of Wales. On 16th September 1400, after around 100 years of English rule in Wales, Owain Glyndwr stood in-front of 300 of his supporters including ambassadors from Scotland, France and Spain, and declared himself Prince of Wales.

Owain Glyndŵr’s ambition was to establish an independent state with its own Parliament, Welsh Church and two universities. He managed to win the support of most of Wales and the king of France.

This started a 15 year revolt against the English Rule in Wales. Today he is celebrated as a visionary for Wales giving hope and pride for Wales.

We celebrated in school by creating story stones in Outdoor Ed to recreate his story and having a Welsh Themed Menu at lunch time.
