Chestnut Hill is dedicated to providing the best, person-centred education for our young people from 8 – 19.
Everything we hope to achieve with and for our students is focused on preparing them for a bright future.
Our school ethos is based around the ABC – Aspire, Believe, Create. We provide a safe, secure, nurturing environment in which our students can learn to believe in themselves, aspire to the future they want, and create their own unique pathway towards it.
We are ambitious about achievement, but we know that no two young people are the same. That’s why we accommodate individuality in all that we do. Our teaching combines the New Welsh Curriculum with a tailored autism-specific approach, giving equal weight to all subjects as part of a rounded education.
Our package of learning encompasses six key areas:
- Languages, literacy and communication
- Humanities
- Mathematic and numeracy
- Science and technology
- Expressive arts
- Health & wellbeing
In addition, we deliver an autism-specific curriculum, based on the eight areas of the Autism Education Trust’s Pupil Progression Framework:
- Communication and Interaction
- Social Understanding and Relationships
- Sensory Processing
- Interests, Routines and Processing
- Emotional Understanding and Self-Awareness
- Learning and Engagement
- Healthy Living
- Independence and Community Participation
Partnership is at our core. We work closely with parents, carers and wider support structures, and we involve clinical, medical and therapeutic experts to ensure our young people can access the right package of support.
At the same time, we want to encourage our students to be partners too. Pupil voice plays a significant role in our school and we enable our young people to communicate their needs and opinions, to become participants in their school and the wider community.
