Welcome from Ben Reading, Executive Headteacher
Hi, I’m Ben, the Executive Headteacher at Chestnut Hill. I first qualified as a teacher over twenty years ago, and have spent my career working with children who have autism and additional needs. In addition to working in a number of very successful special schools, I have also worked as a specialist advisory teacher for Cheshire West and Chester’s Autism Team.
I studied Trinity College Dublin and the University of Cambridge, and I combine a Master’s degree in Behaviour Analysis with a commitment to relationship-based, person-centred support. I’ve always enjoyed supporting and teaching pupils with the most complex needs. I have a particular interest in curriculum design and assessment, and I’m passionate about the person-centred, tailored approach that helps young people set and achieve their personal ambitions.
I’m very happy to welcome you and your children to Chestnut Hill School.
Vickie Salamone, Head of School
Hi, I’m Vickie, the Head of School at Chestnut Hill. I have worked in education for over 18 years in various Secondary Schools in Flintshire and Cheshire. I graduated in 2000 from the University of Central Lancashire with BA (Honours) and completed a PGCE in Secondary Education in 2006. I have worked closely with the development of the new Welsh Curriculum, and I have been the head of Transition as well as Director of Learning.
I have always had a passion for the arts, and I have taught art up to Key Stage 5. I am driven by a strong desire to create an environment where all learners can access a bespoke learning journey. I have always championed a practical, nurturing and therapeutic approach to teaching and learning, seeing first-hand the benefits.
My goal is to ensure all pupils of Chestnut Hill are happy and provided all the necessary opportunities to be the best they can be through exciting, creative and meaningful learning experiences. We want to help all our children grow and develop positively in a variety of ways.
